DNOTM: Richard Hart, the British Baker Who Trashed Mexico’s Bread Culture
Congrats to Richard, La Chancla’s December DNOTM!
MEXICO CITY — Our Digital Nomad of the Month for December is Richard Hart, a 48-year-old British baker who moved to the nation’s capital in 2023 and recently surged in popularity among locals after making comments about the country’s lack of a bread culture and saying that Mexican tortas were made “on these white ugly rolls that are pretty cheap and industrially made”.
Amid tensions and protests this year over gentrification and the arrival of entitled foreigners to Mexico City, Hart exemplifies the cultural competency and respectable integration chilangos have taken to the streets to celebrate and welcome.
Following stories in dozens of media outlets praising Hart for his cheeky remarks, he issued an apology on social media, dispelling any suspicion that he might be a self-righteous pompous Brit who considers himself superior to others.
If you do spot Richard at his popular overpriced bakery Green Rhino in the Roma Norte neighborhood, tell him congratulations!
He’s La Chancla’s December DNOTM!
